Pro bono design for Restaurants on Mission
On our way out of Fundacion Ciudad Refugio, in Medellin, we volunteered with Restaurants on Mission, a foundation that aims to provide a step towards a better life for people completing reformation and reintegration programs, through nonprofit restaurants.
We art directed and designed, a new identity, motion graphics, and various assets to help them mobilize a campaign to build their first restaurant in Medellin.
We created a series of short animations to introduce the new brand and promote a crowdfunding campaign.
The mission of Restaurants on Mission is to rethink business, revive hope, and restore community through restaurants, hence “RE”.
Based on the concept that RE serves as a first step back into society—offering an opportunity to develop practical skills in an industry where it is possible to advance without a formal education, for a people who otherwise have limited opportunities—we developed a symbol that conceptually rises up (illustrating that first step, and the countless possibilities that may follow).
Several patterns were created to broaden the scope of the brand inspired by the core concept, which is to step up or rise up bettering one’s life, and that of the community.
Including two “step-up patterns” as well as floral patterns derived from Medellin’s famous flower festival.

6. Retail items
Jewelry and apparel were designed as giftable items for those who donate towards Restaurants On Mission through their crowdfunding campaign and sold separately as an additional source of funding for their first restaurant (which is currently in the making).
